Phoenix Coyotes
The Lincolnshire Merit Table match began well for the visitors, with Clee on the attack immediately, playing a fast game with forwards and backs inter-linking. This was to set the tempo for the whole match.
Despite this, the first score was against the run of play with Clee unable to capitalise on their early good work. A moment of indecision saw Horncastle tap a quick penalty and spin the ball to their quick centre who, out wide against forwards, was able to sprint round under the posts for a converted try. This however was the one moment of the game when they were at an advantage.
Clee 2nds of old would have crumbled but the new version have a spine of steel and they picked themselves up.
Once again the driving of the forwards interlinked by flowing backs meant that Clee were within striking distance and this time skipper Beeken made sure that the hard work was rewarded. With a little jink that sent the back line running, he crashed over near the posts for Wigg to convert.
Clee upped the pace and, with a drift defence that gave little away, Horncastle were stranded.
The second Clee try came from Danny Wright, making his debut on the wing. He chased down a delightful chip, picked up and sprinted to the corner to score.
Russ Swan added the third after a seemingly relentless period of play where forward after forward crashed over the Horncastle line, only to be held up. Eventually Swan, partnering Beeken in the centre, called for the ball out wide and, one on one with his opposite number, was never going to be stopped.
Half-time was reached with Clee 17-7 in the lead and looking unassailable.

The second-half started with Clee having a holiday and Swan deciding to show he was human by missing a string of tackles, one of which led to a Horncastle score.
With the lead at 17-13, the foundations looked a little shaky.
It was time for the stubborn streak to show and Clee once again shifted up a gear and, working their way down the park, the ball was spun out wide to newcomer Joe Konar who athletically rounded his opposite number and scored out wide.
This spurred the team on and another decisive period of play saw Stark pick up a loose ball at the back of a ruck and power over.
To cap off the display, another newcomer, Rob Smith, jinked and accelerated away to score for a 32-12 lead. Clee relaxed and Horncastle grabbed a late consolation try.
An excellent performance from the Clee 2nd string, which bodes well for the end of season run in.
Cleethorpes' 1st XV eased their relegation worries at the weekend with a 'walkover' win against fellow strugglers Rolls Royce.
