Hmmm ... Lemme think

...

Both I guess. Plus Seiken Dentsetsu.
And some of the western style RPG's.
They all have their own charme.

Altough I'm lately stuck in Azeroth ... To my shame

EDIT:
I did it AGAIN ... I mistook Dragon Quest with Breath of Fire
Althought I played 'em both, I confuse 'em ALL the time

for me it's final fantasy. the only dragon quest i've played is eight. that one was a little too camp for me. does anyone else think the hero looks like a purple super saiyan when he has max tension?

Yeah ... but I weren't that surprised.
Knowing Akira Toriyama did the Characterdesign for Dragon Quest and all ...
Although I expexted that along the game, somewhere that little girl from Dr. Slump pops out to poke some shit

What was the name of the 8th Dragon Quest ? I always tend to forget such things ...

I personaly think that there are few RPG's that can cope with the Storyline from FF VII (excluding all the Pre- and Sequels)
But that makes the others not the least not as good
It's just hard to get to that level of storytelling...

Final Fantasy is the best and Persona is really nice too ^_^

I don't like western RPGs because most of them are overly designed (in terms of monster appearance and character costumes). However I do play Fables and Elder Scrolls series, as well as the old Myst (Ok Myst ain't really a RPG but more to a puzzle-solving game on steroids). I love Japanese style RPGs actually, especially the Final Fantasy franchise. I may like FF but so far I only managed to complete FFVIII (bcos it doesn't rely on MP management for magic attack unlike the other series). Right now I'm waiting for FFXIII and this would be my only reason to buy myself a PS3, although I've actually grown irritated of the 'feminine look' on the male character design (as usual in FF series, most notably characters designed by Tetsuya Nomura). There's this Enchant Arms too but I haven't play it yet, due to I don't have the XBOX 360 (yet). But my most beloved RPG would be the Xenosaga series. Frankly speaking, I no longer look at other RPGs after completing all 3 episodes of the game and I still hope Namco will release the continuation of the game (as they have planned that it would span up to 6 episodes). I don't really play MMORPG but if I were to play it I'd choose those Korean made one instead the Chinese-made. OK I'm currently engaged in Luna Online (mainly bcos the characters are super cute! plus the minimalistic installer size). However I still love offline RPG more bcos MMORPG usually are too linear or too static in character (avatar) development and believe it or not, despite they're online in nature, they always lack focus on socializing, which often times makes me bored of only keep killing the mobs repeatedly for hours.

When refer to "western style RPG's" I think mostly of those old rpg's like Might & Magic ... Or Bard's Tale ...
hmmm.. I DO get old!
I mean I played them when I were 14 or 15 ... and that was 15 years ago

Somehow the first Daggerfall (the later Morrowind) also stuck to my memory

But yeah ... since The Legend of Zelda (the first one on the old NES) I'm also stuck with the japanese style.
Mainly because they, feel different then their western counterparts.
And since the Secret of Mana series, I also admire the Storytelling.
Best exsample - I repeat me here - is FF VII

There aren't that many RPG's from western developers -I know at least- that are able to mix technology with magic.
I always find something like that intriguing ...

As for the MMORPG ... well the socialicing is always a thing from ALL gamers of that specific server ...
I've played a free ROSE-server and had always some to team up ...
And i've taken a look at Cabal, just to get pissed by the TOTAL LAG!!! Plus I had some trouble to find me a descent group there ...
FLYfF was kinda fun ... but at some early point I lost interesst in it ...
Oh, and i played some NeoSteam ... but since the end of the open beta, I lost interesst in it (they simply chnged the xp-rate too much)

As for the stories of MMORPG's:
{sarcasm on}They have Stories ??? {sarcasm off}
I rarely take the time to delve into them ...
Mostly it's just questing for XP ... And the hour-long-killing-quest can really be annoying.
Especialy when it's about getting some items ... with a real LOW drop-rate.

Actually I think, most MMORPG's live of their PvP capability ... If it's nation vs nation or guild/clan vs guild/clan ... or just everyone vs erveryone.
By wich the last are just plain unnessecery. If I want a DeathMatch I start counterstrike or similar games.

Oh ... and actually I'm never sure if I'm playing a Chinese, Korean, Western or Japanese MMO ... I simply never take the time to distinguish them
When I like them, I play them ...

Sorry, it got somehow kinda long
