A NORTH-EAST entrepreneur is behind the development of the latest "must-have" hair styling product, which is predicted to take the international beauty world by storm. Hairdresser and salon owner Paula Todd has led a year-long project into the development of the TheO heated rollers, which are about to be launched across the UK after winning praise from across the sector. Ms Todd will be the first to introduce the product into the North- East at her salon, Green Ginger Hairdressing, in Newcastle, and is predicting the TheO rollers will revolutionise the industry. They will not be on general sale initially, but salons across the UK are already clamouring to secure them. The company which makes the rollers, Cloud 9 - founded by hairdressing icon Robert Powls, one of the founders of GHD, and which headhunted Ms Todd to be involved - has already said it believes the stylers will see women abandoning traditional heated hair products in favour of TheO rollers, which activate heat once in the hair, use no pins and work faster. Her involvement in TheO marks the second time Ms Todd has helped develop a hair product, after being bags-B selected ahead of international competition to write the step-by-step guides for the Cloud 9 styling irons, launched last year. Ms Todd, whose salon is celebrating its 20th year in business, said she is excited about the prospects for the product. "It's been very exciting working on the development of TheO and keeping it all top secret. At the minute, the rollers are only available to salons rather than the public. It's the most exciting development in professional hair products for decades, and we're delighted to have played a part in it, " she said. "It's exciting to have been chosen for the second time by an industry leader, to help develop yet another great cheap coatch purses new product for salons and individuals." Ms Todd said of the product: "Heated rollers have been around since 1966, but have never really taken off like straighteners did. The old rollers took ages to heat up, and then were too hot to handle and, because they were so heavy, they needed pinning. "The new breed of rollers heats up using induction technology, so they are hot in the hair, not in your hand, and they are made of a lightweight, soft-grip material similar to Velcro, so there's no need for pins. "You choose from five different roller sizes, pop one in the pod, wait four seconds for it to heat up then wind it in to your hair. By the time you've done that the next one is heated up and ready." Ms Todd hails from a hairdressing family, and her father was a barber who helped several other Italian barbers settle in the North- East in the Sixties. Her father-in-law was also a barber. "It's a bit of a family joke Best Vacheron Constantin Watches Online that Todd is not exactly the best name for someone who works with hair, but I can't say I've noticed anyone looking nervous, " she said. "Many of our clients have been with us since I set up the business, which is a good measure of whether we are getting it right. We're very proud of spending the last 20 years making people feel good about themselves, and we're looking forward to being at the forefront in the next 20 yea Other articles: http://www.accounting-networks.com/blog/view/id_248/title_kantar-video-unveils-addition/ http://www.hldtoyota.com/bbs/Blog.asp?BlogUserName=lookes&menu=ShowBlog&BlogID=868

By Robert S. Hong Staff Writer MONROVIA - For the past four years, Ulysses Gutierrez has dedicated his life to making things better for at-risk youths around the San Gabriel Valley. To do so, he founded the Monrovia Youth Alliance, a YMCA- sponsored group for kids in danger of getting involved in drugs, gangs or other destructive behaviors, and offered them a place of comfort and solace. replica hublot watches On any given day, a member of the alliance can come in for counseling, group activities or just a safe place to express their concerns. "We work on building a one-on-one relationship with them," Gutierrez said. "A lot of them feel abandoned." The youngsters are often brought to the YMCA by volunteers, who pick them up from home and drop them off when the day is over. Along with teens struggling in school or at home, Gutierrez has also worked with gang members and young parolees. Some of them came to him to turn their lives around. "I would turn in boxes of knives, guns, drugs," he said. "They would find security and identity through these things." Patek Philippe Replica Gutierrez's goal is to allow his charges to find a new identity through discovering a passion or purpose in life, he said. After all, that was how he changed his life. Growing up, Gutierrez was involved in gangs and addicted to methamphetamines. His wake-up call came in the form of an overdose and a stint in rehab. Shortly after being released, he decided he would dedicate himself to helping others facing similar problems. "I have a great passion for taking kids who look like they are not going to be successful and placing them on the path for success," he said. The idea for the alliance came in 2004, when Gutierrez met with three gang-affiliated teens on a bench in Monrovia's Library Park. "They were looking for a way out," he said. "They wanted to succeed, but didn't know how." Since then, his work has spread by word of mouth, and now there are nearly 70 members. For older members in the group, there are also opportunities for networking and jobs. David Quijas, 18, said he used to run with the wrong crowd and was heading down a dark path.A friend recommended that he look into the alliance and since then, he said, he has renewed his relationship with God and got a job with the YMCA. Micheal Cerda, 18, also said the program has helped him get back on track. Two years ago, he was running with a bad crowd and using drugs, he said. Then he tried to steal a car before being caught and arrested. "At that time I was kind of defiant, then I ended up getting locked up," he said. He was on house arrest when it was recommended he join the alliance. After some time, his eyes were opened to a new reality, he said. miu miu Handbags "I realized that being a negative influence on society can have no positive outcomes," he said. The father of a 22-month-old boy who died from head injuries that were not treated immediately pleaded guilty to fatally neglecting his son in Kanawha Circuit Court on Thursday. Christopher Steven Washburn, 32, formerly of Cross Lanes, admitted that he was negligent in not taking his son, Constantine Alexander Washburn, known as Alex, to the hospital until May 29, 2008. The child died two days later at CAMC Women and Children's Hospital, after being admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit with extensive brain injuries. In January, a jury convicted Alex's mother, Elizabeth D. Thornton, of child neglect resulting in death, the same crime to which Washburn pleaded. Fake Chanel At Thursday's hearing, Kanawha County assistant prosecutor Don Morris said the state was prepared to use much the same evidence against Washburn that it used to convict Thornton: testimony from doctors and the state Medical Examiner that the child suffered blunt- force head trauma, that the seriousness of his injuries would have been immediately obvious and that his life might have been saved had he received immediate medical attention. "Medical treatment was not sought until it was too late," Morris said. During her trial, Thornton testified that Alex had fallen and hit his head on a coffee table on May 26. Later, when she was bathing him, he slipped in the tub and hit his chin on the toilet, she said. She said that, although Alex vomited and became lethargic following his injuries, she thought he had a stomach virus, which was running through the other children in the household at the time. Washburn did not testify at Thornton's trial. Replica Officina Del Tempo Watch Alex's injuries were not consistent with falling and hitting his head, Morris said Thursday. Judge Tod Kaufman scheduled Washburn's sentencing for May 4. Thornton's sentencing is set for March 27. Each faces three to 15 years in prison. As part of Washburn's plea deal, prosecutors agreed not to seek a longer jail term because Washburn is a repeat felon. They did not specify what his previous conviction was for, and Kanawha County records list no previous felony convictions. During Thornton's trial, state Medical Examiner Dr. James A. Kaplan testified that Alex had multiple head injuries that were not consistent with his parents' story of hitting his head during a fall. This made Alex's death a homicide, he concluded. "Alex was fatally assaulted," he said. "Somebody did something to Alex to cause his death." According to court records, prosecutors had filed a motion to compel a DNA sample from Washburn. During the investigation, detectives collected DNA from a hole in a bedroom door in the couple's apartment, and were able to extract DNA from two sources. Chanel Replica Handbags One source was Alex, and prosecutors hoped to match - or eliminate - Washburn as the other source, according to the filing. Instead, Washburn and his attorney, Michael Payne, agreed on Wednesday to enter a plea deal. WHEN petrol prices rocketed a couple of years ago there was widespread discontent among the motoring public. Protests were held and lorry drivers went in slow convoy to hold up traffic and block roads. Things then began to improve and prices slipped back again. Until now. A 17 per cent rise in European wholesale petrol prices since late January is threatening to push UK average pump prices above the July 2008 record, warns the AA. This time, we just seem to be taking it with hardly a word of protest. A weaker pound is aggravating the potential for price rises, with Pounds 1.20 a litre possible - even before the Government is scheduled on April 1 to add 3p in fuel LED light bulbs duty and VAT on to the cost of petrol and diesel. With VAT, that could add 8p to the January/February price. Edmund King, the AA's president, said: "The UK is barely out of recession yet petrol prices threaten to rise to record prices. If families, drivers on fixed incomes and those on low pay were unable to cope with record prices then, they are even less likely now. "Before this wholesale price surge works its way through to consumer spending and hits economic revival, the AA believes the Government should look at what is behind it. With refiners in Europe closing sites or looking to sell them, soaring wholesale prices could drive down demand and weaken the sector further." Cost of winter driving ACROSS the country, motorists are facing a new and expensive problem and it's all down to the winter weather. The most common winter costs for motorists were: 1. Extra de- icer/screenwash. 2. Using more fuel (this was the number one cost for younger, less experienced drivers). 3. Increased visits to a car wash. A quarter of motorists went three times more than usual. 4. Using public transport in place of their car. 5. Replacing a tyre/wheel due to pothole damage. THE LOOK on the face of Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez told its own story. Twenty-four hours before the biggest game of his life, the World Cup semi-final, and a group of English journalists were still quizzing him about the red card for Luis Suarez. Predictably, Tabarez (below, right) got annoyed, brushed aside the questions and dismissed the angry accusations Suarez had been made a national hero back in Montevideo. But are we really kidding ourselves the same would not happen in England? England, of course, were nowhere near good enough to reach the semi-finals. But picture the scene. In the final minute of extra time, Miroslav Klose heads goalwards, Wayne Rooney jumps and blocks the ball with his hands. Germany get a penalty and miss. England win the shoot-out. Are you telling me R o o n ey wo u l d become a public outcast, a hate figure and every England fan would denounce what he did? No chance. They are divers when they are foreign players, but rarely do we castigate England players when they take a tumble to win a penalty. cheap lace front wigs Mind you, they rarely got into the opposing penalty box in this World Cup. But that same scenario happened to Uruguay last Friday. Ghana had become the heroes of Africa, they had been brave and played really well and pushed Uruguay all of the way. But Suarez handled on the line, conceded a penalty and was sent off. Asamoah Gyan missed from the spot and the game went into a shoot- out. It was incredible drama but, unlike Thierry Henry's handball in France's World Cup play-off with Ireland, the incident was punished. Ghana we r e awarded a penalty and they missed it. Suarez was sent off. As he was trudging d o w n t h e tunnel, he turned back when he realised the penalty had been missed. He was also celebrating after the shoot-out. Then, afterwards, showing no remorse, he said his handball was the new Hand of God, proudly using a line from Diego Maradona. It's far from tasteful and in no way am I trying to condone cheating. But the moral high ground is a bit far-fetched. Spain defender Joan Capdevila's histrionics to get Portugal's Ricardo Costa sent off were far worse. Ivory Coast's juicy couture tracksuits Kader Keita was shameful for his playacting to get Brazil's Kaka sent off in the group stages. Both Keita and Capdevila were worse than Suarez as they got away with cheating. He didn't and it's not his fault Ghana missed. Suarez should not be held up as some sort of hero even if he sacrificed himself for his team. He cheated. We e n j oy e d Ghana's World Cup fairytale and that made what Suarez did s e e m e v e n worse. But we are kidding ourselves if we think he got any different treatment from what Rooney would get if he did the same thing. Uruguay have far exceeded expectations and the nation has been Louis Vuitton Beige Toile Handags Replica enjoying their World Cup success. It shouldn't happen.
